ALWAYS dry it first with paper towels or kitchen towel. Both the fies and shrimp tasted great. As instructed in the manual, I placed the battered shrimp directly in the bowl, did not use basket, shrimp did NOT stick to bwl. For the reviewer who said putiing something direct from freezer into the hot oil caused a problem - all available sources tell you NOT to put moist food into hot oil. I used this fryer for french fries and shrimp last night. I used the basket for the fries. First time I ever made home made fries and shrimp.
We considered buying another one, but were too worried it might happen again. So, very regretfully, I have to give this fryer a low rating. There was a big hole where plastic used to be. Yes, melted. The first time we used it was for a party of about 25 people, so we were frying up a storm. My husband and I bought this fryer and totally loved how crispy and delicious our chicken turned out. But towards the end of the day after frying a lot of chicken we noticed something: A portion of the plastic that covers the outer layer of the fryer MELTED. We were astonished. And we returned the damaged fryer to Amazon.
It's a good size for 2 people in the house but the thing that I didn't like is that when you drop the haddle to cook the food something happen that hot water or oil is dropping by the haddle and I burn my hand couple of times so you need to be carefull with it.But it cooked well.
i'm afraid to use a deep fryer again because of this. all i did was set the basket with food in to start cooking. i didnt have mine very long, but for the few times i used it the food came out good. however, when i last used it, the oil overflowed. i didnt over fill the oil or the basket, so i dont know why that happened.
As another has mentioned, HEAT THE BASKET IN THE OIL BEFORE PUTTING FOOD IN IT, and try not to use those nasty, gooey batters that are like cement. The container can be removed and washed separately from the unit. It works, doesn't make a mess, and is easy to clean. Great fryer in so many ways. It cooks hot, so watch your food. I've owned several other brands over the years, but this is the one I'll come back to every time.
